Romance Trope Matchmaking: Find Your Next Read by What You Love Most
You don't need a personality quiz. You need a trope quiz.
Look, I know how this works. You finish a book, stare at your Kindle for twenty minutes, open five different recommendation threads, close them all, and end up rereading the same book because at least you know it'll hit right.
I'm fixing that. Right now.
I've mapped my entire catalogue by trope so you can find exactly the book you're craving based on the feeling you're chasing. No algorithms. No scrolling. Just tropes and the books that deliver them.
Grumpy / Sunshine
He's brooding. She's a ray of light. He doesn't stand a chance.
This is the trope that built my career. Give me a man who scowls at the world but melts for one specific woman and I will write you 80,000 words about it without stopping to breathe.
Your matches:
- The Shake-Up (Capricorn Cove) — The quintessential grumpy/sunshine only reversed. He shakes up her life. She pretends to hate it. She's lying.
- Thunder Thighs (Larsson Siblings) — The book that started it all. Body-positive sunshine heroine meets grumpy guy.
- Puppy Love (Dogg Pack) — Dogs + grumpy hero + sunshine energy = serotonin.
- Blood & Stone (Stoneheart MC) — Grumpy MC president meets sharp-tongued lawyer. The grump meets his match.
Fated Mates / True Mates
The universe decided you belong together. Now deal with it.
Fated mates is the trope where free will takes a back seat and destiny drives the car. I adore writing it because the tension isn't will they get together — it's how do they survive getting together when the bond is this overwhelming?
Your matches:
- Feral Fates (Shadowmist Pack) — Kitara and Ryker. Fated mates, pack politics, and a bond that's primal and unapologetic.
- Savage Bonds (Shadowmist Pack) — Lithia and Kier. She's the first female Beta. He's her fated mate. She disagrees.
Forced Proximity
You can't leave. You can't escape. You definitely can't escape your feelings.
Forced proximity works because there's nowhere to hide. You're stuck with this person, and all the walls you've built are going to come down whether you like it or not.
Your matches:
- The Maiden (Bride Hunt) — A literal labyrinth. You can't get more forced proximity than being hunted in a maze together.
- Savage Bonds (Shadowmist Pack) — Pack territory. You're not going anywhere. Neither is the bond.
- Cold as Stone (Stoneheart MC) — Small-town return. You left. Now you're back. And he's still here.
- Blood & Stone (Stoneheart MC) — Recovery and protection detail. You're stuck together. Feelings are mandatory.
Enemies to Lovers
I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. Oh no.
The tension. The banter. The moment one of them cracks and the other realises the hate was never hate — it was just feelings wearing a disguise.
Your matches:
- Heart of Stone (Stoneheart MC) — She's wary. He's an outlaw. Trust is earned, not given.
- Runner (Nameless Souls MC) — Post-apocalyptic. Trust is currency. And she's not spending any on him.
- Hard as Stone (Stoneheart MC) — Friction first, feelings later.
Fake Dating / Marriage of Convenience
We're pretending. This is fake. The feelings are definitely fake. (They are not fake.)
The best part of fake dating is that moment when both characters realise the performance stopped being a performance about three chapters ago and neither of them wants to admit it.
Your matches:
- The Marriage Claim (Reigning Hearts) — A political marriage that's supposed to be purely strategic. Spoiler: feelings don't care about strategy.
- The Mrs. Clause (Capricorn Cove) — Holiday fake marriage. She needs a baby. He volunteers. What could go wrong?
- The Christmas Contract (Larsson Siblings) — It's in the name. Contractual. Temporary. Definitely not going to become real. (It becomes real.)
Friends to Lovers
You've been right there the whole time and I was too stupid to see it.
Friends to lovers is comfort food for the soul. The slow realisation. The panic of potentially ruining the friendship. The moment when you finally cross the line and realise you should have done it years ago.
Your matches:
- Just Joshing (Archer Siblings) — Best friends. One of them has been in love with the other for ages. The other is about to catch up.
- Pier Pressure (Dogg Pack) — Small-town friends-to-more. The kind of love that's been quietly growing while you weren't looking.
Second Chance
It didn't work the first time. Maybe the second time, you're both ready.
Second chance romance hits different because there's already history. There's already hurt. And there's already love — it just needs a reason to try again.
Your matches:
- New Year, Knew You (Capricorn Cove) — Amnesia second chance. She can't remember. He can't forget.
- Cold as Stone (Stoneheart MC) — She left. She came back. He's still angry. He's also still in love.
Protective Hero / Touch Her and Die
He will burn the world down. But only for her.
The protective hero isn't just possessive — he's devoted. He'll fight anyone, face anything, and dismantle entire organisations if it means she's safe.
Your matches:
- The entire Stoneheart MC series — Every hero in this series would commit actual crimes for his woman. Starting with Heart of Stone.
- Wrath (Nameless Souls MC) — Post-apocalyptic protection at its most visceral.
- Feral Fates (Shadowmist Pack) — Werewolf protection. It's primal. It's territorial. It's everything.
Found Family
Blood makes you related. Loyalty makes you family.
Found family is the trope that makes me cry every single time I write it. There's something about people who choose each other — who build something together from nothing — that hits me right in the chest.
Your matches:
- Stoneheart MC — The entire club is a found family. Starting with Heart of Stone.
- Nameless Souls MC — Post-apocalyptic found family. When society collapses, you build a new one. Starting with Runner.
- Capricorn Cove — Small-town found family. The whole community becomes your people. Starting with The Shake-Up.
- All Access — Disability community as found family. Starting with Knot My Type.
